Hemp Pens, Everything You Need To Know

As they are the easiest way to enjoy the benefits of hemp and the cannabinoids within the plant, hemp pens are one of the more popular products used for hemp consumption. Below, we provide a breakdown of hemp pens and the different types.

What are Hemp Pens?

Hemp hands are used to vape cannabinoids like CBD. They are small, pen-shaped devices that are discrete and convenient to carry. Because of the increasing popularity of cannabinoids, hemp pens have grown more popular, and they’re known by a variety of names, like CBD pens, Delta-8 vape pens, and vaporizers.

Disposable vs. Rechargeable

While there are various different hemp pens on the market, they tend to fall into two different types; disposable and rechargeable.

Disposable

Disposable hemp pens, though cheaper in the short run, in the end cost more if you use hemp daily because they are single-use. They offer the same convenience as rechargeable hemp pens, except they do have one advantage; they’re better for travel, especially since many airplanes don’t allow passengers to bring on lithium-ion batteries.

For some models of disposable hemp pens, the batteries can be changed, but this doesn’t apply to all models. Once the cartridge is empty, the pen can be disposed of. Delta-8 disposable pens are available, as are disposable pens and cartridges for other forms of hemp.

Rechargeable

Rechargeable hemp pens tend to be more on the pricey side, but long term, they are more cost-effective. Instead of buying an entirely new pen each time, You’re simply buying individual cartridges and juice. They are better for the environment and last you much longer.

Dry-Herb Vape Pens

Dry herb vape pens are one of the two major categories of hemp pens. This type of vaporizer transforms cannabinoids like THC into water vapor at a low temperature. It doesn’t quite reach the temperature needed for combustion, as the hemp isn’t actually ignited; no actual smoke is produced, but the cannabinoids are transformed from a liquid to a gas.

One of the benefits of dry herb vape pens is that the cannabinoids are vaporized naturally, giving the user the naturally produced spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes produced by the herb. And because you’re not inhaling smoke but water vapor, it’s one of the cleaner ways to inhale the substance.

There’s a chamber within the pen where the ground hemp is packed, and it can take a few moments to minutes for the pen to reach the proper temperature for usage. Dry herb hemp pens tend to be on the pricier side, but they are rechargeable and can be reused repeatedly, so the price is worth it.

Delta-8 pens are a way to enjoy Delta-8 THC, a popular form of hemp.

Concentrate Vape Pens

Concentrate vape pens are the other major category of hemp pens, and it is meant for concentrates and extracts; they come in cartridges, including Delta-8 cartridges. The concentrate tends to be of higher potency than hemp flower, and there are two major categories of concentrate vape pens; wax and liquid.

Wax Vape Pens

Wax vape pens can be disposable or rechargeable, and little is required within the chamber of the pen. Wax vape pens heat extracts to the point of vaporization, and they commonly feature a mouthpiece and a heating element or atomizer.

Wax pens are made for concentrates and extracts with thicker consistencies. Most vape pens use lower temperatures, but wax pens can reach from 315 to 700 degrees F. Wax vape pens do require more upkeep because the thicker substances can stick to and block the chamber, but they are a popular option because of the more potent extractions that can be used within them.

Oil Vape

Vape pens that use oil concentrate either come in pre-filled cartridges screwed into a battery or specific chambers included with high-end vaporizers. Most oil options are already preloaded into a cartridge, which is merely screwed into the battery. Vape batteries for these kinds of cartridges either have a button to power the unit or activate when they are inhaled from.

The quality and strength of the cartridges depend on the type of concentrate and the cartridge. Cartridges can either be plastic with a wick system to draw the oil in or glass and metal with coils.

There are two major oils in pre-filled cartridges; CO2 oil and distillate, and they are made differently. CO2 oil is created with cold temperatures, high pressure, and CO2 gas. Distillate tends to be made with solvents like alcohol or butane and, when properly produced, can have trace amounts of the solvents. Distillates are more potent but can be diluted with other solvents to thin out the oil, making it less potent and easier to vaporize. The dilution depends on manufacturers.

With a solid understanding of the different hemp pens, like Delta-8 vapes, it’ll be easier for consumers to choose the right one for them.
